Air Plains Services Corporation is a leading supplier of aircraft modifications located in Wellington, Kansas (25 miles south of Wichita). Founded in 1977 by Mike Kelley, Air Plains has grown to become the industry leader in engine and airframe modifications. Air Plains is also called on by some of the biggest names in aviation to offer advice, opinions and expertise.
Our growth and expansion over the past few years has created several opportunities to offer new and exciting products in our specialized market. In 1999 we added the 172R models to the 180 HP STC upgrade. For the past 10 years we have been installing IO-520 and IO-550 engines on Cessna Skylanes (1965 thru 1986). We have also acquired the STC to upgrade all Cessna 180 aircraft to 300 horsepower, as well as an STC to upgrade the Cessna R182's to 300 horsepower.
In 2004 Air Plains added a new manufacturing facility adjacent to the maintenance build which enables us to fabricate rapid prototyping parts in aluminum, steel, and titanium. Currently the shop operates three CNC Mills and an 80x120 inches router table. A 200 Ton hydro-press, 10 feet press break and a 12 feet roll were also added to aid in the fabrication of sheet metal parts. Our staff is trained to execute all the stages of the manufacturing process. This approach allows us to produce prototype parts faster and to assure that the final product is acceptable to the job.
