If you have a Cessna 172N with the original Lycoming O-320-H2AD it's very likely that you've dealt with the issues that come along with the single housed dual magneto. Air Plains developed a solution many years ago to replace the original -H2AD engine with the -D2J or -D2G series. This is very similar to an engine remove and replacement and reusing many components on condition including the propeller. STC SA2714CE approves the removal of the original Lycoming O-320-H2AD and installation of Lycoming O-320-D2J or -D2G engine. This alleviates the problematic single housed mag with a more desirable engine.
